In this light and on this evening..

..not only Is it blog time again… but its also the name of Editors latest album!

Yep I’d aired Papillon and You don’t know love on the show, but I must admit I wasn’t really sold on the latest album.  I was disappointed with the pace, preferring the fast paced energetic ‘The Back Room’.  I hate to admit when i’m wrong (i’m never wrong? am i?!) but seeing them air the record live on tuesday made total sense, to all the people crowing how boring Editors are, you can’t deny they put a great live show on.  Now I’m still not saying the latest album is one of my top 20 of 2009 but It definately sits more comfortably with me now.  I got offered an interview with Ed, and was intrigued to hear what he had to say about their shift in direction and how they gel as a band now the band members are located in different countries…

As for the play..

It was amazing, really inspiring and intense.  Carl and Sadie portrayed the characters fantastically and even the american accents weren’t half bad! The show ends very soon, so if you’re in London get down to Riverside Studios asap and check it out it’s called ‘A fool for love’.  Nice to see Carl again, always good to see someone doing so well. He looked really healthy too!

On my return from London I was off to see The Joy Formidable at the Ruby Lounge, they used to live in Manchester so it was bound to be a bit of a homecoming.. the band were in good spirits, joking about the huge rip in Rhydians Jeans caused by a roof trip..roof trip, roof rip?!.. seriously he was nearly showing the crown jewels!    The place was packed and Ritzy was on great form as usual bounding around the stage.. showing everyone just what they are made of..  Their forthcoming album is due out in the coming months but in the meantime check this vid out for a flavour of whats to come… tasty!

Today was all about Ash.. I’d been intrigued to find out where the idea for the A-Z singles collection had come from and this weeks ruling between Pink Floyd and EMI makes the question of concept albums vs singles ever more pressing.  Tim Wheeler Ash’s lead singer actually appeared on Newsnight last week discussing the matter!

Drummer Rick joins me for a chat soon on the show to talk about their A – Z singles, Bloc Partys Russell Lissack joining them on their upcoming tour as a guest second guitarist and more..

My pick of the things to do in the next few days.. Detroit Social Club at Moho on friday night, Wild Beasts at Academy 2 on saturday and on Tuesday Tunng and Erland and the Carnival hit the amazing Band on the Wall.

Tunes of the week?  I have new releases from the awesome Exit Calm and Allo Darlin’, totally opposing sounds but equally amazing.. these videos aren’t the tracks but make for a great taster, have a good un’

Exit Calm:

Allo Darlin
